Card of the Week: Page of Rods

Sooner or later, everyone has the experience of finding themselves in completely unfamiliar new surroundings.  Some people adapt to fit in, while some insist on continuing to do things their own way.

The Page of Rods is a young character, full of passion and zeal.  You or someone you know could be excitedly chasing new ideas, eagerly seeking excitement or adventure, actively pursuing another person or position, or simply demanding attention, with disregard of potential pitfalls and consequences.  If unexpected news arrives, don’t let a dynamic messenger distract from the actual message.

Inverted, this Page is showing a childish petulance and may throw a tantrum if things don’t go their way.  Adults will look beyond the immediate situation to the bigger picture.

In “Charlie X” the cargo ship Antares transfers an unusual passenger to the Enterprise.  Rescued at the age of seventeen, after apparently surviving alone for years as the sole survivor of a crash on planet Thasus as a child, Charlie Evans is only now interacting with other people for the first time.  In his immature efforts to impress, he begins to show powers that he shouldn’t possess.  Unusual objects appear.  Chess pieces melt.  As Charlie’s displays become more overt, they becomes more dangerous.  The Antares is destroyed.  Enterprise crewmembers vanish.  Charlie takes over the bridge.  When Kirk finally threatens to kill him, an alien Thasian appears.  The aliens had given Charlie powers to help him survive, but recognize that he can no longer live safely with other humans.  The Thasians restore the Enterprise crew and depart with Charlie.
