Card of the Week: Knight of Coins

Security is not the absence of danger.  It is the presence of stability and certainty, no matter what the situation.  That strength can come from external sources, or from within your own core.

The Knight of Coins represents dependability, reliability and security.  Whether caught in a dire situation or simply responding to a casual request, you can always count on his determination and persistence to get the job done.  Loyalty and duty come not from mindless obediance but from doing what you believe is right, taking pride in your service and sharing the pleasures in its rewards.

Inverted, this card suggests a stubborn inertia has settled over an important situation, by overall fatigue or by energy diverted to other projects.  Look for a way to kick-start it back to action.

In “Balance of Terror” the Enterprise is sent to investigate the loss of signals from Federation outposts along the Romulan Neutral Zone, a region established at the end of a space war there a century earlier.  Now, a Romulan ship with new stealth technology is testing Federation defenses and destroying its outposts, becoming visible only briefly when firing a devastating new weapon.  The Enterprise manages to track only the ship’s general course, and intercepts a first-ever visual transmission showing its Romulan Commander Keras to surprisingly appear Vulcan, leading Spock to speculate that the Romulans are an offshoot of Vulcan’s ancient past, driven by a rigid warrior culture.  When the Enteprrise finally manages to damage the Romulan ship, its Commander prevents its capture by ordering its self-destruction, “just one more duty to perform.”
