Card of the Week: Justice

Actions have consequences.  Some consequences can be immediate and obvious.  And sometimes, choosing to act for a short-term gain may overlook a potential long-term result.

The Justice card asks you to consider the consequences of your actions.  You may need to balance your needs with the needs of others in order to reach an important decision, to keep finances in order, or to evaluate a potential business dealing or the division of responsibilities in a relationship.  Justice should incorporate both truth and fairness, for all parties involved.

Inverted Justice does not imply complete absence of fairness, but suggests a bias may exist.  Look for recent changes in previously stable relationships and situations that might shift old balances.

In “Court Martial” the Enterprise visits Starbase 11 for repairs from a severe ion storm.  Kirk reports that he had been forced to jettison an ion pod while under red alert during the storm, resulting in the death of its crewmember, Lieutenant Commander Finney.  When initial ship logs contradict Kirk, Commodore Stone orders an inquiry that leads to a full trial.  In the Starbase Courtroom, Kirk’s former friend and now prosecutor Areel Shaw presents detailed logs apparently showing Kirk ejecting the pod before the red alert.  Spock finds evidence that the ship’s computer records may have been tampered with.  Defense attorney Samuel T. Cogley requests the trial moved to the Enterprise itself.  A search eventually turns up the missing Finney, not dead but hiding and attempting to frame Kirk.  Finney is captured, and Kirk is exonerated.
