Card of the Week: Three of Coins

Opportunity comes to those who look for it.  Getting something done is an accomplishment; getting something worthy done right is an achievement.

The Three of Coins denotes achievement from craftsmanship and productivity.  It is sometimes called the “genius” card.  A large project may require the collaboration of visionary designers, skilled builders and talented artists, all striving to creative a masterwork meant to be a source of collective and lasting pride for generations.  Consider how your plans today may become your legacy tomorrow.

Inverted, this card warns that pettiness may try to undermine larger goals.  When you must handle minor issues and temporary setbacks, don’t let them cloud your vision of the bigger picture.

In “The Gamesters of Triskelion”, the Enterprise is making a routine check of automated facilities on the uninhabited planet Gamma II, when three crew members suddenly vanish.  They find themselves on the far-off planet Triskelion, where they are placed into gladiatorial combat.  Their trainer, Galt, explains to them that they are now property of the Providers, whose society is built entirely to support their wagering on the combat games of their enslaved thralls, kidnapped from races all over the galaxy.  The Enterprise arrives to attempt a rescue, but the entire ship is quickly disabled by the Providers.  Kirk convinces the Providers to make an all-or-nothing wager, staking the enslavement of his entire crew against the freedom of all thralls.  He wins his combat, and the Providers promise to help the thralls start a new and free civilization.
