Card of the Week: The Wheel of Fortune
The universe is always changing. Karma is a Sanscrit word meaning “action,” tied to the belief that changes occur in cosmic cycles, and the idea that everything in the universe happens for a reason.
The Wheel of Fortune is a manifestation of the notion that change presents opportunity. Your luck may be about to change, if you can see a way to take advantage of it. Recurring cycles in life, family and business do not always repeat exactly. Keep an eye out for the small differences that might be a peek through a portal to greater recognition and reward.
Inverted, the Wheel still suggests opportunity, but warns of additional risk. Proceed with caution. Pay attention to planning and timing, and stay vigilant for unforeseen or overlooked details.
In “The City on the Edge of Forever” the Enterprise is orbiting an unknown planet, investigating ripples in time coming from its surface. When the ship lurches during one wave, Doctor McCoy accidentally injects himself with a drug that induces temporary madness. He flees to the planet. A landing party follows to catch him, and the time ripples lead them to a structure calling itself the Guardian of Forever. The Guardian demonstrates its purpose by using its portal to display a skim of Earth history. McCoy, in his delirium, leaps through the time portal and into the past, somehow changing history and causing the Enterprise to vanish. Kirk and Spock must try to duplicate his leap, hoping to land in the same era, find McCoy, figure out how to prevent him from altering history, and return to their restored timeline.
