Card of the Week: Queen of Cups

There is nobility in compassion, beauty in empathy, and grace in forgiveness.  No one heals themselves by wounding another.  We must understand before we judge.

The Queen of Cups is a sensitive woman filled with empathy.  While she may offer unconditional love, her deep and caring nature makes her vulnerable to others’ emotions and needs, and she can have difficulty maintaining her own best interests.  She can seem unfocused or overwhelmed, but do not mistake shyness or reserve for simplicity or gullibility.  Her inner strength is boundless.

Inverted, this Queen can become embroiled in intrigue.  Her angelic demeanor may conceal a history of seduction and betrayal.  Remember that the fantasy is only the tip of a much deeper story.

In “The Empath”, the Enterprise arrives to evacuate a science expedition from Minara II before its sun reaches nova.  The landing party is quickly captured, and they find themselves in an alien lab with an unknown mute woman McCoy nicknames Gem.  They defend Gem when a pair of alien Vians arrive.  Kirk receives a minor injury, which Gem heals with a touch that momentarily transfers the injury to herself before it vanishes.  They continue to project Gem as they first attempt to escape, then become victims of physical experiments by the Vians that grow increasingly harmful.  Gem is reluctant, but continues to heal them even as the severity of their injuries puts her own life at risk.  Ultimately the Vians reveal their true purpose, not to torment the humans, but to teach Gem about empathy and return her home to teach the rest of her race.
